About Us

¿CAN YOU SAY GERONIMO? was founded in the summer of 2005 by Sandi Stevens. Sandi grew up in the sport of gymnastics and credits the lessons she learned in gymnastics, both as a gymnast, coach, and national speaker, for many of the successes in her life. Once Sandi stepped into the gym at the age of 4, she never left! She went all the way from the preschool program to competitive gymnastics, until she was eighteen, when she switched to the role of coach and even had the opportunity to direct the preschool program where she began in gymnastics. Gymnastics continues to be a strong passion in her life.

While coaching gymnastics, Sandi also received a Bachelor of Fine Art degree with a concentration in sculpture. Through a short stint at Haystack in Deer Isle, Maine, Sandi discovered her medium of choice is metals and the process of casting. Even while she worked as a commissioned artist, she still continued to spend the majority of her time in the gym.

In early 2003, Sandi, along with her family, opened Cassetta Gallery Fine Art and Framery. Even through this venture, Sandi continued to search for a way to combine the two passions of her life, art and gymnastics. Through her travels with gymnastics, Sandi could see that there was a lack of fashionable apparel available to the sport of gymnastics.

What about the name? Many people ask Sandi about the name of her company. It all has to do with a song and a favorite childhood memory. The song, Fair Play, by Van Morrison was on when she was asking her fiancé about what she should call the business. He suggested "Can You Say Geronimo" and she instantly knew that was it. When she was a child, she and her friends would yell Geronimo while jumping into the creek or playing King of the Hill. It symbolized going for it and taking the risk. The memory this name conjures up is her motivation in this venture.

The future she sees for this company? Currently, her apparel line is heavily themed in gymnastics, but Sandi will continue to add other subjects of interest as well as artwork and jewelry. Sandi still does commissioned art work and interior design, bringing her creativity and infectious enthusiasm to the world around her. To keep up with her passion of gymnastics, she also is a national instructor for KAT (Kinder Accreditation for Teachers) and MELPD (Movement Education and Lesson Plan Development) for USA Gymnastics.
